[edit] Philosophy
The redemptionists are a fanatical cult dedicated to cleansing the Underhive of sinfulness (by fire preferably) and thus returning it to the Emperor's good graces. The three sins they consider the most important to root out are abomination (mutations), witchery (wyrds/psykers), and heresy (opposing the Redemptionists). For themselves, the Redemptionists believe in self-mortification, but don't believe in stimulants or intoxicants other than those provided by their self-flagelation and other activities in line with the preachings of their leaders. They also believe in hiding their faces and in regular prayer.
[edit] Mobs and Crusades
There are two types of Redemptionist gang. The first is the unwashed and almost leaderless mob of fanatics - the more there are, the harder they are to break. Also, the majority of the mob must be basic devotees. The second is the Crusade - led by a priest (normally with ties to House Cawdor), there is much more skill, discipline, and focus behind a crusade - but generally fewer people. In either case if someone dies there's a strong possibility of a free replacement.
[edit] Special features of Redemptionist gangs
Firstly, the Redemptionists don't readily break against the unclean - a definition including any gang using psykers or mutants. Secondly, they really like fire. This means that most two handed weapons can be fitted with an Exterminator - a one-shot flamer for that extra bit of fire power. Thirdly, they consider hired guns impure and don't use them unless stated otherwise in the scenario or by the arbitrator. Fourthly, the Priest of a Crusade has the ability to convert captured opponents. Fifthly they are maintained by alms rather than needing to gather the resources themselves.
