Hello all, this is my first post on the forum, but I've been checking out the great Necro gangs here for a few months.

I'm a long time Eldar player and have been thinking over the past month or so how to use an Eldar gang in Necromunda. The premise is simple - the gang is actually a team of Eldar on the Path of the Outcast, tasked with seeking out ancient Eldar artefacts, some of which may appear to the uninitiated as slightly exotic archeotech.

The Unseen Shadows are an Artefact Recovery Kindred. I spent a little time thinking about how best to represent the Eldar, but decided that the simplest way would be to pick the House which mirrors my own Eldar playing style in 40k, so these guys are using the Van Saar House list.

First up is my leader, Casidhe Redhand, converted from the Mordheim Elf Mage. Most of the other Eldar in the gang will lack robes or cloaks, but I wanted my leader to be marked out with his senior appearance. The conversion itself was a simple weapons swap to give him an Eldar chainsword, with a Harlequin fusion pistol standing in for a plasma pistol (neatly referred to as a 'star pistol' in my roster). He's also carrying a back-up weapon in the form of a shuriken catapult (autogun), strapped to his backpack:

Next up, one of my two planned heavies. Menos Surefoot totes the fearsome shuriken cannon (heavy stubber). Probably the rules don't accurately reflect the weapon, but I can look at upgrading another time. Menos is a classic Harlequin Death Jester with a head taken from the Blood Bowl Star Player Elric Sidewinder, and a few little added extras:

Finally for now I've got one of my Juves, Tal Newblade. Toting just a shuriken pistol (autopistol) and knife, he's converted from the ace Space Elf Nomad sculpted by Impact Miniatures for a 40k tournament last weekend (BTW, I know there were a few spares if anyone wants one):

The Gang Roster looks like this:

Leader - chainsword, star (plasma) pistol, shuriken catapult (autogun)
Ganger - lasblaster (lasgun)
Ganger - lasblaster (lasgun)
Ganger - shuriken catapult (autogun)
Ganger - shuriken catapult (autogun)
Ganger - shuriken catapult (autogun)
Juve - shuriken pistol (autopistol)
Juve - shuriken pistol (autopistol)
Heavy - shuriken cannon (heavy stubber), shuriken catapult (autogun)
Heavy - flamer, shuriken pistol (autopistol)

More gangers to follow as I build them Smile

I'm curious, how much, was there only one pose and what was it armed with originally?

Nice start, although you do realise that your leader will not get to make 2 attacks in close combat as he has the autogun (basic weapons now always counts as using one hand for the purposes of CC).

The Nomad figure can be seen as the green here

He was limited to 50 casts, only available at the campaign and was sculpted by Patrick Morgan. I believe there are in the region of 7 or 8 figures which were left from the event and we're looking to sell them on for £8 each plus p&p (I realise that this is pricey compared to commercial figures, but economies of scale come into play and that price is close to the cost price).

I didn't realise that was the case for the weapons - it's been a while since I played. Perhaps I'll discard the autogun - or is the back up weapon better than his chainsword?

Dude! you cut up that jester! Surprised

Nice idea though, I did the same using Orks as Goliaths.

I would stay with the pistol-chainsword combo.

I think that using the Unknown Warriors rules would have been better.

I think to get round it all, the leader will get a plasma pistol and autopistol as a back up. I might think about giving him a plasma gun as an alternative to the pistol/chainsword combo, but we'll see!

Excellent suggestion - I hadn't picked up on these rules. With that in mind I've come up with the following:

Fundamental Skill: agility
Major Core Skill: shooting
Minor Core Skill: stealth
Peripheral Skill: muscle

This tailors the Eldar gang much better than compromising with one of the other skill tables. Agility is definitely a good fit, and shooting and stealth work well too. Muscle is definitely out - who's heard of a body-building Eldar?

Weapons tables:

CCW
Knife
Sword

Pistol
Shuriken pistol (autopistol)
Laspistol

Basic
Shuriken catapult (autogun)
Lasblaster (lasgun)

Special
Star rifle (plasma gun)
Flamer

Heavy
Shuriken cannon (heavy stubber)
Missile launcher

Leader
Chainsword
Star pistol (plasma pistol)
Fusion gun (meltagun)

Hopefully that's given me a decent mix of Eldar-esque weapons. Note I've deliberately omitted stub guns and shotguns from my list as they're not fluffy enough!

Right, enough of that, you want to see some more gangers right?

First up is Lul the Younger, a Juve armed with shuriken pistol (autopistol). I really wanted to use the classic Eldar Trader as he's a smaller figure than even most of the Rogue Trader range. I'm claiming his shuriken pistol is holstered! I need to re-base this guy!

Next is a standard ganger - Merne Darkbrow is equipped with a lasblaster (which handily pretty much equates to a lasgun). I wanted to steer away from the classic Eldar Ranger range for most of the gang, but this figure is one of my favourites, so just had to be included unmodified.

Ancient Thoughts is one of the gang's two Ghost Warriors - a compact wraithconstruct powered by the spirit stones of legendary warriors. Ancient Thoughts is regularly consulted by Casidhe Redhand regarding strategy in the recovery operation, and can also sense the proximity of other spirit stones or psychically charged hidden artefacts more easily than the living kindred. Ancient Thoughts is armed with an integral shuriken catapult (autogun).

Finally like Ancient Thoughts, Ancient Deeds is a Ghost Warrior wraithconstruct. Unlike Ancient Thoughts, the soul contained within its spirit stone is silent and will not commune with the living, but instead will fight as directed or required. At all other times the Ghost Warrior remains deathly still. Ancient Deeds is armed with an integral flamer and autopistol.

I'll be putting together the rest of the gangers over the next fortnight Smile

After somewhat of a hiatus, I've finally made some progress with some of the Eldar. I'm still re-working the leader, so first up is a pair of gangers and a pair of juves.

Merne Darkbrow is armed with a lasblaster (lasgun) and was originally converted up for the Work In Progress sniper competition. He's based on the old Jes Goodwin Eldar assassin sketch and converted from an old Shadowseer figure. He was too cool not to use somewhere, so I've re-based him:

Eidyn Balefire, the second ganger, is a multi-part conversion with Dark Eldar legs, Harlequin torso, Guardian arms and an old Ranger head. I love the way the coat looks! His shuriken catapult counts as an autogun:

Next up is a juve (Tal Newblade) converted from a custom sculpted Eldar figure from a gaming event earlier this year. I've replaced his original weaponry with a shuriken pistol (autopistol). Otherwise he's unconverted:

Finally its the the second juve (Lul the Younger), completely unconverted - I just love the pose. He also carries an autopistol which is holstered on his right hip:

Still got 6 more gang members to paint up - hopefully more to come this week.

Offhand, I'd match Shuriken weapons to Boltguns (or possibly Shotgun, using the extra ammo types as a quasi-aspect upgrade with the pistol being a Boltpistol) rather than to Auto - they are after all more powerful even than boltguns (and there is no way lasguns should be an upgrade on shuriken catapults).

Definitely something to consider, although taking them as basic weapons does limit the other weapons I can take in the gang list using the unknown warriors rules, as each of the bp and boltgun takes up two slots from the 5 additional weapons.

Perhaps shotguns with man-stopper rounds might work out well as a shuriken catapult proxy?

OK, move on a week or so, and a few more models completed!

First up is my revised Leader, Casidhe Redhand, complete with a star rifle, shuriken and catapult (or plasma gun and autogun if you prefer):

I've proxied the plasma gun with the Fire Dragon Exarch Dragon's Breath flamer (I'll make sure it's painted blue to make it look suitably 'plasma'!).

Next it's my final ganger, Gaalen Silvertongue with a shuriken catapult (autogun):

He is based on an old Chris Fitzpatrick Elf spearman sculpt from Ral Partha. The pic doesn't show it very well, but in place of his spear he's holding a shuriken catapult minus the ammo thingy, and has said ammo replacement in his other hand.

That's all 10 members of the starting gang, but I've also put together this guy with the components from the first attempt at a leader, who could be an alternative leader (armed with a plasma pistol and chainsword), or perhaps an experienced close combat ganger for later in the campaign. I did a head swap too, so he's not an identical twin to my current leader:

Thanks for all the thumbs up so far!
