Update: Pics of assembled and converted figs a couple posts down

Finally getting around to assembling, basing and (hopefully) painting my Van Saar figs. I recently stripped the 8 boxed set figs I painted back in the 90's and have acquired quite a few more in the intervening years.

Here's how the already assembled or 1-piece figures are armed:

Leader: Chainsword and Plasma Pistol
Heavy: Heavy Stubber

Juves:
-Las Pistol and knife
-Stub gun and Autopistol

Gangers:
-Shotgun
-Autogun, Laspistol
-Lasgun
-Autogun
-Autopistol, Lasgun
-Bolter

Gangers/Scum
- 2 Bolt PIstols (This guy I'll probably paint up as scum)
- Hand Flamer and Bolt Pistol (This guy's already half in Van Saar gear already, so I'll proably paint him up as such)

I've got plenty of bits for nearly any weapon in the game, with the possible exception of Heavy Plasma Gun or Autocannon, (though I could do some converting….) so my only limitation is the pose of the miniature since I don't want to do any major body conversions.

Now, the here's the 7 decisions I have to make regarding the rest of the figs that are unarmed or that I'm willing to convert. Rules used will probably be the LRB.

1) Ihave a second leader/Ganger with Chainsword and Plasma Pistol. I was considering exchanging his plasma pistol for something else. I could easily change out the Chainsword. What to do?

2) I have a second Heavy fig. He was intended to hold a Heavy Stubber, but I can easily put most any weapon on him. What should I give him?

3) Juve with no weapons. Would work best with CCW's. How should I arm him?

4) I've got two gangers in need of a basic ranged weapons, though one could be a third heavy.

5) I've got a Ganger in need of 2 CCW's.

Two general questions.
6) Is there any point in putting power weapons (fists or swords) on any of them?

7) Is there any point for going for Stub guns with specialty ammo instead of a bolt pistol or las pistol?

Thanks for any advice you can offer. I'm not intending to totally power-game this group as I'm keeping some stock figures with less-than-optimal configurations, but for the ones that aren't armed yet, I'd like to outfit them with the best choices. I haven't played Necromunda in almost 20 years so respond as if I know almost nothing about the game.

firstly, whatever you do, don't do any conversions that can't be undone. I look at some of the conversions I did in the late 90s (enthusiasm but no skill) and cringe. And these figs will only get rarer and rarer, so don't do anything you'll regret a couple of years down the line. Like I do when I look at my escher heavy with autocannon :(

I think using the scummer with hand flamer as a ganger sounds like a good idea, having a hth ganger is always a wise move.

in light of this, don't remove your leader's weapons, but you can add a holster or similar for another pistol (its easier to pick off GS or plastic than replace bits you're cut off. And I like the plasma pistol.

My VS gang has 2 of the Heavy stubber figure. I gave the second one the flamer off the cadian sprue. Easy (reversible) conversion, useful weapon. And its low cost frees up points. And as heavies advance slowly, its auto-hit is handy. And VS gangs' tecno skills mean the auto ammo-test isn't too big an impediment. I also like flamers 8-)

Juve with CCW yes. Some sort of sword/pistol. or pistol/pistol

Gangers. 1 shotgun, 1 special weapon. you only get 2 heavies, but odds are you'll roll a specialist at some point

Any CCW combo that looks good. Style beats cost efficacy in my book

Power swords/axes/mauls can count as their regular counterparts, so yes. If you model a powerfist you run the risk of never using the model

Not a fan of the dum dum round myself, but if you've 5 creds spare, why not

My own VS gang start lineup:

Leader- Melta, chainsword
Heavy- Heavy Stubber
Heavy- Flamer (conversion)
Ganger- bolter
Ganger- shotgun
Ganger- Autogun
Ganger- Sword and autopistol (bought conversion)
Juve- Autopistol
Juve- Stubgun and club
Scummer- 2 boltpistols (remedial conversion)

Hope some of that helps :D :D

EDIT: You can tweak duplicate models, slightly altering the pose, or raising one foot slightly. This means that you can use eg. leader with chainsword and plasma pistol twice without it looking odd or confusing.

I finished assmbling and basing these up on Sunday. As to the conversions, it's a bit late as I always intended to clip their slottas down to pegs and mount them to scenic bases. Still, the only modding I did to any of the actual figures was to remove the leader's plasma pistol. Definitely hurts the value, but some of these have been with me 20 years and it's likely they'll be with me a long time to come. They've all been based on Champ Industries plastic bases. IMHO, an unsung gem and great bargain for the wargamer. The Darker colored figs are originals that I bought back in the 90's and painted, but stripped recently.

Here's what I went with:

Stock figs

Multipart and Conversions. In the end I chose some of the conversions because I liked the concept or because they will be useful in games other than Necromunda.

Shiper rifle that could easily serve as a lasgun or Autogun. Gun from Heresy, hands from GW Cadians. Flamer heavy with IG flamer bits and guitar string. I also like flamethrowers. Still have to fill the join between the flamer and the shoulder strap.
Image

Close Combat Gager has a sword from a WHFB kit. The female head is from the Alpha Forge Salvage crew line of figs, formerly sold by Megaminis. The fist is not as big as the angle of the pic makes it out to be. The Plasma gun is an RT era ork piece, one of my favorite bits, and possibly my last.

Simple bolt pistol swap on the leader (now a CC ganger) and another Salvage Crew head on the juve.

Not a conversion, but I bought these new back with my original gang and never painted them. Really looking forward to taking a brush to these.

These guys look great and can't wait to see them with some color. Plus extra bonus points for using a proper Ork Plasma Gun ;) (I have a special place in my heart for RT era Orks as they were the first army I ever collected)

Can't wait to see more of your gang, and would love to hear how they do in action

Nice. The flamer conversion is very similar to mine, but better done. I have the same plasma gun on a Cultist Deacon. Love those old bits. The bases are very smart indeed.
