Cupcake, what has your experience with Urban War been? I was really excited about it when it first came out, but Urban Mammoth was trying to keep the rules a big secret or something. I read through there forums just trying to get an idea of how it worked. Eventually I just got burnt out on the idea, it was as if they had wasted too much of my time. Apparently other gamers feel the same way since they have finally released all the rules for free. But after all this time and their holding out, I just can't make myself care that much.
Anyway, enough ranting/complaining on my part. What do you think of Urban War? Is it worthwhile? How does it stack up with Necromunda?
Yeah it was pretty cool, kinda like Necromunda except that is slightly more complicated then Necro. It uses D10 instead of D6. It dosen't have stuff like territories or trading posts (though I hear that there will be). You give out orders to your guys, and there are different kinds of actions you can do for each order given.
The gameplay is really involving, kinda like Inquisitor or Warzone/Mutant Chronicles (okay poor comparisons but I can't think of anything else that's similar). And it's got VEHICLES!
It does however have some bad points...which I can't think of at the top of my head...
But I can tell you that the rules are somewhat confusing when you first read them (or if you understand the VOID 1.1 rules then there are some minor changes).
The models are great though I'm not too keen on the Purebreed Koralon models...straight out Zerg ripoffs (the fluff too!).
If you read one of the free UW mags (issue 3 i think...the one with the macrosynth on the cover) it has a pretty interesting batrep (Viridians vs. Koralon I believe) written there.
Oh and the artwork rules! Especially the Syntha and Viridian artwork ( they're no longer the Space-Hippies! YAY!).
Does it stack up with Necro? I would say yes. Is it worthwile? Yeah, provided you take the time to understand the rules.
If I had to rate Urban War out of 10, I'd give it an 8. I hope this helped.
I am the cupcake. I like blue.
