Has anyone played Heroscape? It's a very quick and dirty miniatures game (no modeling invoved) that comes with hex-based customizable terrain. I find it pretty entertaining, if I only have 45 minutes or an hour to play (i.e. not enough time for most other wargames).

sounds like an old gw game called hero quest
it was an rpg where you coudl eitehr be a human barbarian, a dwarf, an elf or a human wizard

and you fought orcs, goblins, undead and chaos warriors as well as a gargoyle who was almost identical to one of the really old edition blood thirster models

the game was fun

but d&d is so much better

i baught that for my little brother last Christmas. It was designed by some of the same folks at MB that worked with GW to make Heroquest. It even uses a variation of the same attack dice. It is fun for a while, but the expansions make it last longer, and spend more. It's a point based skirmish game using the basic Heroquest combat rules with the addition of special abilities and some very cool terrain. Like Heroquest was for me, it is a great baby-step to real wargames.
