Milton Bradley made a game called HeroQuest. Many ov you know this game as the game that got you all into miniature games. Milton Bradley was eaten by Hasbro, and HeroQuest was discontinued.

TSR made a game called D&D. Many ov you know this game as the game that got you all into role playing games. TSR was eaten by WoTc, then Wotc was eaten by Hasbro.

Now, Hasbro has released Official D&D HEROQUEST! wtf!?

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/6366

there are 2 expansions as well. I am going to pick it up.

if i recall correctly heroquest had shitloads of furniture. doorways, chests, bookcases and this game is clearly lacking in these.
it has 40 miniatures of dubious quality, crappy cardboard trees...
i wouldn't bother.

Nearly all reviews say that this new d&d game has most ov the old heroquest rules intact, and the parts that are new are vastly streamlined.

There are some differences:

1. There are different colored dice, that grow in strength as character levels progress. One extra die is rolled with many weapons that give them weird tweaks.

2. Characters do progress. After 4 adventures the characters gain levels, which gives them additional HP, magic points, and access to better treasures in the treasure chests. The other form of character progression is the ton of things lying around the dungeon in chests. Each adventure will get you 10-12 new weapons---of which you can carry 4-5 per character. There is no gold.

3. The two mages have a few different spells to cast, and use mana points to cast them.

4. You get traps. Step on the wrong square and something bad happens. The thief can disarm/detect traps.

Aside from these minor changes/improvements, the game is essentially another version of Hero Quest.

Same here, might just have to get this and combine it with the old one - lets be honest, its just not the same unless its in the Warhammer world...............

So is this the D&D Basic Boardgame? OR is it like a re-make of Heroquest?

Cause I looked at it on the WOTC website, and it looks like just a condensed version of HQ.

I never actually played HG or WQ. : ( But, I did have a lot of friends rave about both.

Has anyone here played both this new D&D game and Heroquest.

I just want to hear somebody compare and contrast if at all possible.

-thanks

Hi there !
I'm new one here and I saw this topic --> lol

Ok so let's light u a little bit....
Around 1999 2000,there was a basic box of Dunjeons & Dragons called "basic rules" including nice figurines and floor tiles (reversible)
MB Hasbro bought the copyrights and has released in 2002 this box you saw with 2 expansions. The second is hard to get 'cause out of stock,I had to bought it on ebay UK.
The new basic box contains a lot of figurines, floor tiles, special dices a quest book + instructions books and a lot of cards. The expansions are very rich with new figurines (ice dragons etc) new floor tiles....yep ! It looks like heroquest or warhammer quest but it's not heroquest.
Rules are like Heroquest : lot of holes and things we don't understand but no matter : you can use dices, figurines and floor tiles to play to your own rules.
Note : it's more complicated than heroquest, closer of the real donjeons & dragons board game of the '80 !
I can post photos of all this if you want.

I just picked up this game at a convention. I also got both expansions. It plays pretty fast and the rules are fairly simple.

The figures are a mixed bag. Meaning that about 1/3 are crap, 1/3 are average, and 1/3 are great. (There is a really cool druid figure and a Ice Dragon monster-thing.)

-when I have more time, I will play a couple of proper games with all the expansions at once. (also I have a couple of Guiness too :) )

Yep I agree with figurines.
The best ones are inside the forest expansion.
Others...but take a look here into collection section !

Still looking, and haven't found it. Is it available in regular toy stores like the original was?
