It seams like specialist games are finally going to get the attention they deserve.

I sure hope so. I'm tired of having to settle for Fantasy and 40K all the time.

I enjoyed the beer and pretzels quality of Mordheim. With a few tweaks, folks can make a serious campaign out of it or remove the hero & henchmen cap. I think it would be nice if they threw in a few new models, but I enjoyed the possible warband selections. I wish I could find the old Mordheim archive section and print up the other warbands, like Osterlanders, Kislevites and what have you. I definitely did not like the comedy aspect of the orks and I wish they had a good solid Brettonians on foot list. I was watching Hellboy, gawd I enjoyed that horrible movie, and was inspired to start designing some more Mordheim terrain. I really need to hold off though as I'm working on my Kill Team project.

If you like beer and pretzels games, play Blood Bowl. I think I have those old lists somewhere...

What I am about to say is petty and paints me as shallow. I can't do Blood Bowl. There is a guy here in Knox-Vegas that is so competative about all the GW games he plays that he makes me ill. He's the type of guy that can't admit he lost. He'll admit the other guy won, but he didn't lose because he did everything right. His competative attitude is so obnoxious that he turns otheer people away. He LOVES Blood bowl and is always trying to get a league together, but can't figure out why no one wants to get involved. The odd thing is, away from the games, he's a really nice guy! But his attititude is so pervasive that when I think of Blood Bowl, I think of him and I don't want to be associated with him. Sad of me, I know, but it's the truth.

Hey, I know where you are coming from. That is half the reason I won't play Warmachine.

Blood Bowl seems like it fits your 'friend.' You can do everything right in that game and still lose. A single roll of a '1' can completely lose a game.

Back on Mordheim, any of you build any decent terrain? I hate the terrain that comes with the game, since it is so small and flimsy...

I'd say I build descent terrain. I'll post up a few pics this weekend if all goes well. It's not great, but it works for me and a few buddies.

I have been thinking about how to respond to this topic.

Personally, I have a LOVE/HATE relationship with MOrdheim.

If a Mordheim campaigns players are allowed to get "out of hand" and 1 or 2 particular warbands get in to the "Power Gaming" realm, then I UTTERLY DETEST MORDHEIM.

For example:

I was in a campaign with 2 players that were utter POWER GAMING Fiends.

They played a REikland Warband and an Averlander warband respectively.

They both had a warband rating of roughly 400~500.

Both warbands had the max number of heroes.

Every hero had Heavy or Gromril armor, Rabbit's Feet, Lucky Charms, and couple had Iron Shod Shoes. The Reiklanders had a hero with Weapons Master, Double Barreled Rifle, Hunter, Quick SHot, and Nimble.

THe Averlanders had a mounted hero with TONS of armor, dodge, step aside, evade (riding skill), spear, crossbow pistol, and 3 attacks.

Both warbands had like 6 Marksmen all armed with crossbows or handguns.

Also, both leaders had Tactician and hunch.

It is warbands like that, that have been 100% min-maxed that make playing warbands like Norse, Possessed, Sisters, Dwarves, and Skaven next to impossible and ZERO FUN. (INSERT THE FUN VACUUM)

However, when you get a good group going and people understand the unwritten rule that, "If you're a power gamer, we WILL GANG UP ON YOU."

When this happens and the a-hole gets punished, well, then Mordheim is A LOT of fun.

Also, themed campaigns can really improve the level of interest in a campaign.

I agree with that, Remulack. It is a very easy game to unbalance. I completely understand you love/hate relationship with it as well. It seems that the game has so much potential, but then someone got lazy with the rules writing before it was finished.

I have to agree; it seems like someone did just tucker out on the rules. I think that it was a very fun game and the rules supported a fun atmosphere, but because the rules were loose, some folks took advantage of the rules too.

Does anyone know where I can find the Specialist Games Mordheim rules for other warbands, like the Osterlanders, Averlanders, etc? The old Specialist Games sight had them (obviously), but the new sight GW has...well....lets say it is less than impressive (IMO). :-)

Thank you so very much! That was most helpful. Gawd, on other sites, there is so much BS and petty bickering. Here you guys are all layed back and relaxed game enthusiasts. This is such a good site. Again, thanks for your help.

That's because we are all TERRIFIED of McCragge(ADMIN)/Cruel Spider Lord.

McCragge has already threatened to drain my blood and eat my children if I ever get out of line.

Seriously though, yes, this is BY FAR, one of the BEST gaming/BSing websites.

I come on here just to goof off when things get slow at work.

Tom's Boring MOrdheim site is good too, it's better if you live in EUrope though, cause they meet up in Austria for Mordheim once a year.

I have been reviewing the Mordheim artwork and one of the things I wish there was , is a chart of odd happeneings. The group finds a treasure chest, it's trapped (insert surprised gasp!). Make a save or perhaps any model in contact is stunned for a round, due to magic, poison gas, etc. A ramp is slippery due to the rain, make an intitiative check or movement up the ramp is -1" Is there anything official like this out there?

There is something like that in one of the annuals, I want to say the one from 2002, although, the events are a little different than what I think you are looking for.
