speshul - I think BB is a great game. I actually had two copies of it at one time - but sad to say I did not keep my hands on them. I let them go for a fraction of what they were worth. :(

As others have mentioned...

BB is a great game, it is portable in a single box, the campaign system is pretty good (IMO), and even for one-off games it is fine. The rules are easy IMO.

My opinion - if you have some mates that would be interested... get it. I don't think you will be disappointed.

just played the first game, very very good, rules simple, and the team rules cards are an amazing idea.

just looking to grab a few more teams up now.

Yeah BB is great, the only GW game Ive ever played regularily....

There is an online league using a Java Tool which is 100% automated... you can find it at http://fumbbl.com you can find me over there too, but i dont get to play much! Though some of them are a little obsessed with he whole balance thing, though BB is probably one of the most balanced and tactically varied games going

found that webby ta, one of the few not blocked by the firewall.

played 4 games now.

last one, turn 7 and turn 8 i have an gutter runner out of reach of all the enemy players , an inch from the touch line. just needed a 2+ to pick up the ball, plus i had re rolls, 4 1's.........

plus i had a rat ogre who spent a whole game on his back on the los, but he did tie up 3-4 enemy players,

loving it so far, some very very random luck though,

If you would like to play LRB5 (current ruleset) there is a Play by Email tool, which albeit slower, is the only way to play LRB5 BB online, but I can only imagine it would be confusing to learn two sets of rules! Its not that automated and also slower than JavaBB, if you ever see me on the irc chat, drop me a line and can help out

javabb seems cool even if its the wrong rule set, doesn't seem that different to practices plays and moves etc.

loveing the game so far, took us a while to play but that was mostly due to giggling as in the 2nd half the blocks only showed pushes or attacker down. for about 45 turns.

Rift played dark elves which was a brave move, and got a 2-0 thrashing would of be 3-0 if not for my silly gutterrunner. we both had a great time and niether of us play to win,

teams i have:
orc, human, dwarf, elf (will try and proxy them as other elves to test), converted skaven.

Rift wants to try ogre.... so i'm looking for another of the harder teams to try so it should give a fairer match, as long as its fun neither of us minds who wins.

100,000 gold is really hard, we can make great teams for 104,000 or 105,00 but we strugggled to make a good team on the limit, so we game free fan factor, and allowed us to over spend :D

i had a skaven blitzer who got a touch down, an injury and man of the match, i just now need to choose him a skill. I'm thinking of pro at the moment, a 50% chance reroll does seem rathe good.

Btw brownrob i need to pick your brains if thats ok? Whats the best way of dealing with a rat ogre? I had 4 guys beating the sh!t out of him for most of the game but I only knocked the thing out in the 6th turn of the seconed half :-( the rest of my guys (and girl) did a sterling job of holding the rest of the ratties at bay....well except my assassin who couldnt stab a potato let alone a clan rat. :-)

Take Guard, trust me you'll love that skill or Mighty Blow.

Good early skills on Blitzer types are Guard, Mighty Blow and Tackle. Claw on a doubles. Pro is the kind of skill you take on either Big Guys or as a 4th skill.

The best all round skills in the game are: (In no particular order)
Tackle, Dodge, Frenzy, Mighty Blow, Claw, Juggernaut, Diving Tackle, Side Step, Dauntless, Stand Firm, Fend, Wrestle, Break Tackle and Grab.

But the best two skills are Block and Guard.

There are also some very neat skill combos worth setting up (Many of these use Block as well):
Block + Dodge (aka Blodge)
Wrestle + Fend (aka Wrend)
Juggernaut + Block
Blodge + Side Step
Guard + Stand Firm
Claw, Mighty Blow + Piling On
Mighty Blow + Piling On
Juggernaut + Frenzy
Juggernaut + Strip Ball
Accurate + Strong Arm
Leap + Strip Ball
Guard + Side Strp
Block + Tackle
Wrestle + Tackle
Fend + Side Step
Dump Off + Nerves of Steel
Pass Block, Leap + Catch
Pass Block + Very Long Legs
Very Long Legs + Leap
Shadowing + Diving Tackle (+Tackle)
(There are more, these are just what I can remember off the top of my head)

There are also a few skills that you only need 1 player with.
Kick, Leader, Dauntless and Dirty Player (sometimes want more than one Dirty Player and Dauntless player) Kick and Dirty Player should go on a Lineman type, Leader can go on a Thrower as they have easy access to it.

the skaven v dark elf game was odd both equally fast and weak so was interesting at times we ran and passed and others we kicked the snot out of each other.

Np, thought I'd also share with you one of my favourite Gutter Runner development paths.

Block, Dauntless, Mighty Blow, Claw (needs two doubles)

If you roll +MA then you can go
+MA, Sprint, Sure Feet, Catch <- can move 13 squares in a turn, so score a 1 turn TD.

+AG is Awesome for Block, Leap, Dauntless, Tackle

+ST is just great cause you don't need to bother giving them Dauntless.

Gutter Runners are the most awesome player on the Skaven team and having 4 of them means you can develop them as you desire. Turning some of them into super fast Blitzers means your actual Blitzers can work on holding the line as Blockers.

I've been playing each edition of Blood Bowl ever since it first came out. My main problem these days is getting enough players together for a proper league.

I have one dedicated friend who loves Blood Bowl as much as I do. What we decided to do is to run an eight team league, with neither of us specifically coaching any one team. Whenever we have a match, my friend and I decide who controls which team and we play it out. All team management decisions (player skill selections, team purchases etc) are agreed upon together.

The league is composed of the following teams: Human, Dwarf, High Elf, Lizard-men, Orc, Goblin, Chaos and Undead. We use the allied team lists so for example, there is a rookie treeman player on the high elf team.

The league schedule is as follows: each team is assigned to play each other team once. When all those games have been played, the top two teams face each other in a championship match (Dungeon Bowl, Spike Trophy, Chaos Cup and the Blood Bowl itself).

We keep track of stats for things like the top 10 players overall (determined by star player points), top 10 scoring players (touch downs), 10 most dangerous players (casualties inflicted) and 10 most fragile players (injuries sustained).

All in all, its been a very enjoyable endeavor. We were thinking of applying the same type of structure to a four gang necro league.
