Well we should probably address the elephant in the room known as Age of Sigmar.

Now, I haven't played it yet and I am curious, but at the same time, it kinda eliminates all the reasons I would play Fantasy over 40k, one being a skirmish battle (that is no organized rank and files) and the other being large armies with big blocks of troops that have to maneuver for proper positioning and what not.

I have also been hearing that is filled with silly and nonsense type rules making the game less of a serious table top battle game and more of a tongue in cheek, beer and pretzels game. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but I am not sure I want to invest into that type of game.

So has anyone played? What are your thoughts?

From what I have seen, yes it's very much a relaxed game. I don't think I will play it much, other than if my two kids want to, or with lots of beer and willing friends. The models are nice, and will make both excellent additions to my collection and a good source for great conversions.

Upon further digging, it seems that the goofy rules are only for the old armies that are no longer going to be part of the Age of Sigmar. Apparently the rules for the current armies (in the boxed set) are very much serious and what not However there is still no points cost to troops that I am aware of, and it seems to be making for interesting and not so fun battles from the Youtube videos I have seen so far.

Does anyone actually own the game and can give us a brief review of it?

I plan to have a couple of games next week. Just using the 4 page pamphlet for rules and two outdated armies. i'm not holding out much hope for an engrossing tactical battle but it's possible I suppose. :(
