I to have played the Total War series from Shogun on up.

I am curious what is it you don't like about Empire Total War? (Note, I haven't had any multi player action yet, still trudging through the online campaign)

Why do you think Rome Total War is the best of the series?

You're kidding right? Where to begin?

1) AI cannot conduct seaborne invasions!! Pretty important in the "Age of Sail"
2) AI's usual tactic in any battle is to creep army forward piecemeal, unless of course he has cavalry which he will dash forward to within range, and then have them stand still while being cut down by muskets
3) AI cannot work out how to assault in multiple areas at once in sieges, preferring to send his entire army up ONE ladder
4) Agents have become next to useless
5) No matter how powerful you are, minor nations will declare war, refuse peace (in an experiment, I even offered Portugal the ENTIRE Spanish Empire if they accepted peace. They of course refused.) and are then crushed next turn.
6) AI will declare war, then have his armies sit in his cities while I burn his land, and then destroy his capital in swift time.
7) The general shoddiness of design
8) The SHOCKING load times
9) The lack of any kind of pitched battles

etc. etc. etc.

The fact that Creative Assembly were advertising for Beta testers for this game 4 months AFTER it was released is disgraceful. My faith in them is severely dented

what he said lol

one of major gripes with Medieval II is the completely random nature of the AI Diplomacy, i.e

You've been at war for a few turns then the AI offers a ceasefire, you accept, only for them to then attack you the SAME turn. What the hell's that about?

As for Steam I don't play games to play against other players. Yup I'm a PvE Carebear through & through :)

I'm also partial to PvE. Most RTS games can be played co-op... at least if they have a decent AI, and there are purpose-built co-op games like Left 4 Dead.
I would like to play a big game of Sins of a Solar Empire involving Human players. Unfortunately, I realize it would take a year.

I don't know how long it has been since you played but that was fixed in the last patch. And I am positive that it works (Curse the French!!)

True the AI still does that the majority of the time. However when playing online with other people, that now longer becomes an issue. And Total War series has always excelled at Multi player rather then single player I think.

I have yet to be seiged, so I haven't experienced this at all...However that is how I usually attack a fort. I bombard that crap out of one wall side and then enter from there.

This too was fixed in the last patch I believe.

They must have fixed this. I had the Persians declare war on me an then they swiftly invaded.

I am not sure I know what you mean...my main complaint is that the made the text so small as barely ledgable even on highest settings

8) The SHOCKING load times

Hmm, I never noticed it being that long *shrug*

My only complaint really is the lack of tactics you can use in the sea battles. There is no terrain, no islands, no shorelines nothing, it is always in the middle of the ocean when confronting another navy. In fact I hate the naval fighting....it is long and tedious at best.

But other wise I think the game is good. I do miss the massive smoke screens of the muskets from Shogun Total War though. Over all, I think it is best when played against live opponents.

In my mind, Shogun: Total War and Medieval: Total War were the original and best. Medieval II was fun though, and I've yet to play Empire, though I want to.

I have per-ordered "Napoleon: Total War".

It's a birthday present to myself, please don't tell me I've made a mistake.

From what I've read, this version is supposed to be the combination of ALL patches for Empire:Total War and the Special Edition version they put out with all the special units (Roger's Rangers, USS Constituion), plus personalities from the period.

Worst case, I have wasted $40, which is normally drinking/gambling money.

I just HOPE it doesn't turn out like Master of Orion 3.

(WHAT A TURD!)
