Just a thought really. Would this appeal to people?
How would people like it to work too? FPS or a more RTS take on it. Maybe even an rpg. Turn based or real time?

What do people think and would you be interested in such a game. What would you wna tout of it?

there was a project to mod the original half-life, but it fell through and they stopped working on it.

this was a few years back so i have no idea what happened.

i think the best way to do it would be similar to Fallout, with combat being turn based and what not, that may work. i dont think FPS would be the way to go as it would be shooting heavy and too difficult to get the right 'feel' imo.

A Fallout Tactics approach would probably be just the thing for a game like this. Get rid of the pseudo-realtime BS that made Tactics a miserable turd and work on getting a proper, smooth turn-based system and add more of a roleplaying element. Add the Underhive and there you go.

As for interest, who knows. But it's a definite maybe. With the success of the Dawn of War franchise there could be interest in a 40K spinoff video game.

I also don't think an FPS is the way to go about doing a Necro game. But I actually had no problem with the pseudo-real-time/turn-based gameplay in Fallout Tactics. It's not exactly the best comparison though, since it uses Action Points instead of Move-Shoot-Etc phases.

Jagged Alliance/Silent Storm style, end of discussion.

Full 3D rotatable third person isometric view. destroyable terrain, action point based.

there's definately an interest then. just so many ways of going about it. thy've got a bloodbowl game coming out this summer and GW have signed a contract with a games publisher so there's plenty more on the way like DoW2, so perhaps necromunda is the next step if Bloodbowl is succesful.

I would hope that GW has learned something from their previous agreement with the publisher/programmers of Dawn of War.

Because GW got screwed by the initial publisher contract. Games Workshop only received a BASE Licensing fee, which I think is around 10% of gross profits, minus legal fees and any contract middle-men or pass through clauses/fees.

I personally think a differnet approach would work - I would be inclined to see it done in a GTA4 sort of way - so a 3rd person adventure which is 95% serious but with a healthy dose of tongue in cheek humour that Necromunda is famous for. It is predominatly free roaming, with access to a number of domes and settlements, with a plot pushed through via 'story' missions with non-essential ones included alongside. This would create the right feel and allow a good part of the hive to be experienced.

As for plot I think taking on the role of a Bounty Hunter would be the best way. You get to customise their appearance - choose armour, accessories etc. (I LOVE when I can make the main character my own) - along with their 'style' (fast and nible, but a not very resilient, or tough and strong but as dexterious as a brick) then start. The story follows your character from novice to seasoned vet - with bounties starting from small time spook pushers to full blown Pit Fighters and Redemptionist crusades that have gotten out of hand (maybe have this as the main story - it going on in the background while you gain experience, then something happens to a loved one (or summit...) and your character goes after them). You get to pick up weapons and equipment along the way, ala GTA, so can have your own personilsed load out which does some jobs well and others not so. You could set it out of Dust Falls - giving you a base of operations, but also access to numerous, potentially extremelly different, domes via the shaft.

Being a Bounty Hunter removes the issue about which gang you play, though you could pick, through customisation, your charatcer to look/fight like a house member (inspired by the Goliath bounty hunter model), or not if you choose not to. It also allows you to experience different aspects that House members might not. You could also include unlockables at the end of being able to play as Mad Donna or Kal Jerico, who are the 2 most famous bounty hunters.

That is the type of game I'd like at least.

I think playing the game as a low life Scummer, Bounty Hunter or Ratskin scout would be awesome 8)

I always thought a multi-player game using the engine from the original X-Com would have been fantastic. It was turn-based, had the ranged combat nailed, and the bare-bones of a close combat system, plus a psychic power system and Overwatch were already part of the game.

Of course, I have far more creativity than coding skill, so something like that is beyond my meagre abilities. :-(

there is so much that could be done with necromunda... a gta style free roamer as a bounty hunter/scum/what ever... a first person shooter as an enforcer... an rpg as a house agent... a rts like total war with houses fighting for control over the hive... there are plenty of angles to go at it.

but i think it is a lack of support in the minature world that hinders it. 40k has a huge following and i think they will follow that trail of gold for a while with the dow series.
