Description:
Get out of the cockpit and into the adventure with the all new, updated MechWarrior 3®, the science fiction roleplaying game set in the explosive BattleTech universe. Players take on roles such as spies, fighter pilots, smugglers and, of course, MechWarriors. Revised with a completely new game system, this edition featues fast-playing rules and colorful fiction that bring the vast BattleTech universe to life.

That's what FanPro's website says about the new 3rd edition MechWarrior RPG. So what does that last part mean... "completely new game system"? Has anyone tried it? Read it even?

I think the original MechWarrior RPG was unfinished and unplayable. Then they had some kind of watered down ShadowRun inspired rules that I never heard if they were good or not.

FanPro Products -- its all the way to the bottom of the page.

Completely agree. The book, however, was FULL of fluff'n'art that was "really" good for the time... remember those ink paintings of the dropships? kewl stuph...

Every version of the MechWarrior RPG has been completely new. They toss out the game mechanics each time they remake it. 2nd Edition was just the current Shadowrun rules at the time. I think this last version was the one with the bizarre lifepath system... the character creation rules tell you to come up with a background for your character and then roll randomly for what actually happens during his career. (The odds that your character will come out anything like you planned are extremely slim.)

I own MW3, the system's ok but I've never had a chance to get into a full fledged campaign due to lack of anyone else buying the book.

It looks ok & has a ton of fluff & artwork in it. The Solaris 7 game world extension book is pretty good too. RP-ing a bunch of guys on the game world seems like a fun idea to me.
