I think part of the problem is timezones. We're all scattered all over the planet, so all too often we're not on at the same time.

I tend to lean towards the old reliable fighter type. I'm the guy who will stay there and get hammered to make sure all the soft targets get out of harms way. Nobody gets left behind type of atittude. That is as long as the character hasn't screwed me or the party over. I have been known to turn my back on thieves who steal from me.

I also like playing Thieves and Assisins but haven't had the chance lately.

In other RPG's I like assault, sniper and medic. Medic because no one else will play it. But I have a kick butt medic in one game running around with a 4" 44mag and Glock in my med kit for a back up.

One thing that concerns me is the lack of danger. Sometimes you have this gamesmaster who merely throws in the fights for the fun of it. Sure, combat is one major fun feature of rpgs's but I really like to give the party a hint if I expect them to run.

Back in my ol' days the players used to stick to missile weapons and running away on horseback. Usually it got them out of trouble....

That could be a whole thread of its own. The frequency and danger level of combat has a big effect on the tone of the campaign. If you're playing HackMaster or any similar style of campaign, combat better be good because that's the meat of the game. A GM with a good sense of game balance and a willingness to fudge a few dice rolls can make every combat a challenge and make the players feel like they earned a meaningful victory. On the other hand, I have been in games where the GM tried too hard to beat the party or was unwilling to fudge things and the whole party was needlessly killed, so danger is only a good thing if it is implemented responsibly.

There are also other sorts of dangers/challenges besides combat. I've been in some games where most of the combats were fairly easy and basically just served to reinforce how badass the characters were. The meat of the campaign, where the real challenges were found, was outside of combat with the characters using their skills and brains to overcome obstacles. Those low-combat games can be fun, as long as all the players are on-board which what kind of game they are playing. Someone who makes a min-maxed death machine that could kill the whole rest of the party in a fair fight may be very unhappy in an espionage game.

Yeah well, my party figured out it was not wise to take on a minotaur even as a party. Thing is, someone was sure to get killed. The best thing they could do was to tell their hanger ons to 'get im' boys!' and stand back and fire their crossbows.

Usually when they inflicted enough damage I got the orcs/minotaurs/dragons to run away.... When I run a game most of the NPC's are actually quite intelligent....

I usually try to play the more "Blow the living hell out of it" types. Fighters, bit of thief, ranger, etc.
So long as I can shoot straight and punch as hard.

Nah, I meant that the party wouldn't take on a minotaur 4 to 1. I mean, sure you'll win but not without losing an arm, a leg and a player....

For a Supers game, does the phrase "Captain Bat Wolvie Man" resonate with anyone?

I like mobile fighters, with a higher dex than str. I like to be able to get around into favorable postions with my overly-large hammer.

It really depends on my mood I am in when I create the character
I do tend to give any character i create a weird quirk
some notables
A former gangbanger Paladin
A mage who was a Sailor
a swashbuckler ranger rouge who is hiding his noble blood
a paladin who is based of the Spartan infantry man

about the only standard is most of my character are clowns and wiseguys
I dislike playing villains they get boring quick. I tend to lean toward the group tank or defender

As a general rule I tend tohave one main specialisation and a couple of fall back bits
It aso depends on it it is a characte in a game with levels or a template system it depends on lot an a couple variables like what my group needs
The most notable thing is i tend to end up the group leader but 11 years in the military will do that

I usualy pick a stealth/ranged guy(usualy a girl i might add) usually aiming for the bounty hunter or outcast roll
In a recent inq campaign we did down here i did pretty well with
My female sniper buh then i out out voted on a 'amo shortage' week in which i ended up doing allot of hiding then thowing knives then running
I tend to not play the indepth rpgs unfortunatly, buh i spose i would look for the cocky young gun aproach lol
