Well everyone else is doing it and I want to be one of the cool kids too.

So here are two miniatures I am currently working on. (the pictures aren't lit very well as the batteries in my camera were running low so I had to be quick. But when the mini's are completed I will try and take proffessional looking pics. But please bear with me in the meantime.

The first is an assassin.

Image

All I have done is the skin tones on him, I am trying to keep him intentionally pale. As for his coloring..well you will just have to wait and see. :)

And the next is a Knight from Games Workshop.

This mini is supposed to be a noble who is outlandishly dressed, sort of a brat ganger but for fantasy. So that is what I have in mind with the color scheme. The lighting sadly washed out a lot of the subtle shade in the NMM armor and the NMM gold trim. Also the feathers, purples and blues have a richer color. All that is left to do is the weapons, hair and base. (His gloves are supposed to be white...actually it has several shades leading up to white, but you can't tell yet.

You're always one of the cool kids!

The Knight looks like an ideal character for Mordheim.

If you're having problems with the lighting washing out the colours in the photos try paper filters over the lights. That'll dim and diffuse it enough to help.

Looking good McCragge. Love the color scheme on the knight.

I was wondering who makes the assassin figure?
It is a nice one. Is it an elf?

I am pretty sure that the first model is a Dark Elf Assassin from the REaper "Warlords" line.

The "knight" looks fantastically flamboyant and would make a PERFECT Marienburger for MOrdheim.

Great job Spiderlord.

You're regal colors look fantastic.

I finished the knight and took some pics. I printed out two different kinds of back drops, I will post them both and see what you guys think. I am leaning towards the first one.

I think the problem was that I was to lazy at the time. I used to edit my pictures with Paint Shop Pro 7 and I know the program fairly well. But I just upgraded to Paint Shop Pro 11, which is radically different and I really didn't want to take the time to figure out all the nuances. Of course I have taken the time now as you can see by the new pics.

While the Knight was super fun to paint, the color scheme for the elf assassin has been vexing to say the least. I want to keep him dark and deadly feeling but at the same time, I want to do more then just a solid black ninja guy. So, I thought maybe a diffused purples and some dark greys. So, far I really like the way the cloak is looking, I will just have to wait and see how the rest of it comes together.

'bout time. I've been thinking about proding this thread to get you to update for a few days now.

Your camera prefers the first backdrop, the colours look wrong on the second set. So I'd stick with the first one. It's also a little more traditional, and it helps to play up to what people expect in backdrops.

I do have a comment about your NMM. The transistions are smooth, but it doesn't look right.

Taken from a poster on WS, here are the rules of NMM.

Quote:
rule 1 is a horizontal area has its lightest point on the part closest to your light source (identically to a zenital light situation)

rule 2 a vertical area has its darkest point closest to your light source (opposite to a zenital light situation)

rule 3 a light area has always be placed beside a dark area

rule 4 reflections lines have only warranty (hope it´s the right word) if these result from the reflection of the whole area.

(As credential proof, here's a link to some of his work)

Next time you might want to try reversing the direction of the light/shadow on the metals, I think you'll be pleasantly suprised at how it works out.

Ok a few more updates for ya.

Finished the Assassin

And here is the start of my new epic project.

I am doing this model for my Boss who is really into pirates. And this was the only boat I could find in its size (1/96th) The box takes up my whole back seat of my car.

Sadly I didn't realize until I got home and opened the box, but there are no cannons on this boat (doh!) So any suggestions for scratch building them onto this boat would be really really helpful.

So here is the box itself

Image

Now, I am planning on doing the ship as if it was captured by pirates and converted to their needs, so, I am planning on painting the boat and sails black for the most part

Image

This model, I think is going to be a true test of skill, as you have to drill out all the holes and create all the rigging. It really is meant for the serious modeler...and is intimidating in some cases, here are a few of the fiddly bits.

But here is one of the HUGE selling points on this model for me. It has a crew! They are tiny that is true, if I had to guess, I would say they are between 12 to 15mm, I put an old school ork nearby for scale (it was all I had that was handy)

Image

Well as it progresses I will keep posting pics!

Well this is an old thread, which seems sad that it has been this long since I have done any painting. But while a little (and by a little I mean a whole bunch) rusty I will hopefully keep the momentum rolling and producing more mini's :)

I put this on Cool Mini or Not and it isn't fairing very well, but I think it is because of my lack of photographic expertise. In person the miniature looks better I think.

I think I need to back the camera up a little bit and use a softer light perhaps.

If anything it gives me an excuse to paint more and experiment with the photography :)

i like the second background on the avatar too. only part im not keen on are the eyes, i can just make out some details but again i think its just down to the camera
