The table surface was hand-painted. MDF primed with White Kilz primer, undercoated with black and rust red primer, oversprayed with a light coat of grey primer...the lines were then drawn on with a felt tip pen to represent concrete slabs, the table was then given another light coat of grey primer (more was applied to the center of each "tile"), the stenciling was then added, and some final light coats of grey primer and Tamiya Gunship Grey, as well as some spotting of rust red primer and Testors Light Tan.

That is a gob-smacklingly amazing gaming table with terrain. I've noticed there are a few walkways etc that have not made it onto the table, are they just awaiting paint?

I will echo that it needs more cover but to even get one piece of terrain done to that standard is fantastic. Also I notice that your games board is larger than what is normally recommended in Necromunda. You have a 4' x 6' table vs the normal 4' x 4' table, which obviously make the table look emptier.

Yes, the table is larger @ 4'x6'. I did this because it will eventually be double-sided (Underhive & Semi-Arid), so that 40K, Necromunda, & Legends of the Old West can all be played on it. The Necromunda Demo will only use a 4'x4' area, with gang rosters and instruction sheets on each 4'x1' area on either end.

A question for everyone about AS's table-

Can anyone think of way to do a similar concrete slab design on cloth?

I'd love to have your table, but because of the necessary travel to the game store where I play, and my car, I can't use a big folding MDF board or even styrofoam.

thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated.

(I am thinking fabric paint and markers will work, but I have to research this.)

@ A.S. specifically,

I have seen folks accomplish the concrete slab look before, as effectivaly as you, except they used black oil paint and syringe instead a felt tip pen. I don't know the difference in the look or which is more effective.

Any thoughts A.S.?

Fortunately AS aaccomplished the look mostly with spray paints. When applied to fabric, they tend to remain very flexible. So it should be easy to duplicate. Fabric paints and acrylics are likely to crack and flake off, especially if you fold the fabric.

I'd recommend starting with a black cloth. That way you can eliminate the black primer. The more layers of paint you have to add, the less flexible it will be.

As for the black lines, the pen looks like it did a good job. I'd suggest sticking with it because you know it won't crack or flake.

Some pics from the Adepticon Necromunda Tournament (if you're interested in getting your hands on a copy of the special scenarios I designed for this tournament, they are available in PDF format at the Adepticon website)

Enjoy!

I can't believe that somehow I completely missed your signature talking about Necro at Adepticon. Any links to the rules and/or scencarios used there?

Looks like a fun event.
Not much terrain on the boards for what I'm use to but I know how hard it is to get any terrain on the board at these events.

How did Necromunda go down? or were most of them already Necromunda players.

The PDF link is: http://www.adepticon.org/files/09necro.pdf

If you download and use the scenarios I designed, please let me know what you think and any suggestions you may have. This will help me refine those I've already done and think up new ones for everyone!

Thanks!

A small sampling of some of my Necromunda terrain, I had actually assembled these two pieces last year but never got around to painting them. With 10+ tables to fill for this year's Adepticon however, I really needed to get on the ball. I laid down basecoats and some large-pattern weathering with an airbrush. Everything else though is simply drybrushing with a few details picked out on each piece.
