what size surface do u guys use for necro battles? we are usaully using a 3x4' table but i also have a 6x4' too for 40k. i actually purposely made a half size table for necro as this seemed better as we used to play on my old 3x2.5' table but this was made from 1.5" mdf and wasnt light to say the least but thanks to a skip near my old work that did the job for the time being. but now im one of those lucky gits with 2 tables and im wondering what size would really be better? and what u play on?

i should also mention for those of you who are thinking "bet he has a big house for 2 boards" well the key is hinges! the 6x4 folds away behind the sofa and the 4x3 slides undermy bed wich also makes sliding the 40k armies out easier too (bonus :P). plus living in a one bedflat leaves very little space so u do what u gotta do.

3 x 4 is cramped, 4 x 4 is what I have always used. In terms of storage, I used a 2" MDF board on tresles. Sorta heavy, but I'm big... I would say that this is by far the most practical system that didn't involve carpentry. But as I said earlier, I can handle one of those on my own, but my buddies couldn't, which can make setting up a bit of a problem. Plus, if your tresles suck, you are just one hip-check away from model and terrain apocalypse.
Aside from that, a ping pong table is damn good, folds away, has wheels and his actually 4.5 x 4 or something like that, giving you a nice little margin for food, drinks and various doo-dads. However, this was not the most practical in terms of moving, as once assembled it gets pretty damn hard to move.

My group is lucky enough to have an 8x6 table set up in a dedicated gaming area :D so we usually set up two 4x4 cloths and run two games at once (4 players).

We also have a bigger cloth, about 5x5, for multi-gang games.

guardian now im jelous, i find tht a 4x6 table is too small for large 40k games would love something bigger.
personaly i find the 3x4 just right and even then when played lengthways we find ourselves spending 1 or 2 turns just walking with nothing to shoot at.
i bet 4x4 mdf board is well heavy! i thought the table was going to break with the smaller one i had before!

I generally use a 4'x4', but I've also got a 4'x3'. I have used my small coffee table (about 3'x2') for playing quick Shoot Outs.

In the Necromunda rulebook it recommends 4 x 4 table and I have two 4 x 4 tables that we use. This allows use to either have two game tables on the go at the same time or we join it together to play 2nd Ed 40k (either as a 4 x 6 table or for larger games as a 4 x 8 table).

4'x4' mostly, set up in the LGS or at work afterhours.

At home I used something about 3.5'x3.5' with smaller deployement zones. Small place - small board. Haven't played a game at home in years, though.

Thanks, I know I'm lucky! I'll have to take some pics next time, it looks great when we've got the whole thing set up.

4'x4' is what I'm using for Necro.

I use 2'x4' size 10mm chipboard boards that I place on the living room table. That way I can build a 4x8 table. It's cheap and easy to handle.

Looks like this when build up:

The living room table is actually slightly wider than the gaming table is so there's some room for dice, pencils, markers and the stuff.
Not very spectacular in the picture but it's great to play on.
