After having a good discussion about 2nd ed 40k on my vacation, I was carried away with the thoughts about it and could not resist but had to built my version of the classic battlebunker for 40k. My experience with my scratch built foam chapel came in very handy, so it took only one afternoon to built the bunker. Maybe I will make some more like this one, then I can at last play the infamous bunker assault mission. If I can find someone to play against me, that is.

I abandoned the classic two arches approach of the original design and kept a one arch design both on the front and the rear of the bunker

And here is a sideview. I made the butresses so, the outer angle would be underneath the vision slits for optimal field of fire.

I hope you like it painted.

I added some imperial eagles for the classic imperial bunker look.

The front door is actually a dark metallic.

Yes, it is etched brass. The reflection on the pics is a bit stark, I agree. In natural light the contrast is actually not that big. Somehow I liked the idea of the bunker being battered and war torn while the aquila plates are in a clean and unspoiled condition. Seems as if there is someone left venerating the plates, cleansing and exchanging dirty or damaged ones. Whether there is an old grizzled mechanic or smith looking after them or maybe a primitive cult, descendants of an imperial outpost or colony turning back into savages but religiously clinging to the emblem of the mighty star eagle...

Ok, I'm beginning to loose it here, so I'll stop now... 8)

Looks really cool, congrats!
Now if only you could place it in a battle report (with pics and all) so we could see how it stands in a battle test...

Plans on doing more of the sorts or was it a single test?

I'd love to put in a battle report with pics. My UO is not very much into 40k lately, though, so it may take some time to do that.

Hmm... maybe I'll built another one one day. After finishing my SoB chapel at last...
