I've never actually played a game of rogue trader (although we did do a sort of rpg based on the rulebook) but I thoroughly enjoyed your battle report. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be doing any retro gaming anytime soon as the only shop in the area (that I only just recently found) only uses the current rules. Once I get to know some of the guys, some may be up for some retro, who knows.

Cheers dude; I'm glad you enjoyed it. I know what you mean; it can be hard to find opponents willing to play a 25 year old set of rules that have been updated five times in the intervening decades! However it's definitely worth it and it really is a great game; though it does play totally different to modern 40k.

The game in my battle report was kept fairly basic (no vortex grenades; crashing space ships; GM controlled Zoats) so that we could both ease ourselves into the rule set. However once we're used to it again then there's room for all sorts of weird and wonderful stuff to happen so I'm looking forwarded to expanding on this later.

If you've got a copy of the book then it's worth trying to entice a few people to give RT a go. Keep it simple at first (use the Battle at the Farm Scenario from the book) and explain it's a skirmish game as opposed to a mass battle.

Where do you live mate; the Old Hammer retro 40k movement is picking up in popularity so there is bound to be a player base somewhere near you!

I haven't played any version past 3rd ed. All my games were 2nd and I played 3rd once when it first came out, hated it and didn't play it again. Living in Northeast Ohio, players and shops are very few and far between.

Ah Second Edition was great; I always felt it was the introduction of third where things started to go horribly wrong for 40k! The simplification of the rules was astronomical!

Hmmmm I see your issue reference a opponents!!

As promised following my last RT battle report:

I recently played an awesome game of second edition epic (1991) with may mate, and it was a great laugh.

I have written a full battle report and guide to the rules on my blog at:

http://classicastartes.blogspot.co.uk/

Have a look and I hope you enjoy it!
