This is a message I will post a couple of times in this section for each game because I think that its best that each game is discussed in its own topic.

What experiences have you had with EPIC. The reason I ask is that games like this seem like they have a very limited fan base and so have appeared and then disappeared like a flash, or were top sellers in their day but have now dwindled to the point of non existence.

I would like to pick this game up (or another I have posted about) and so would like to get a general idea about how it plays, what size of game do you think work best? or can it be linked in some way back to Warhammer 40,000 and so used in a campaign?

Any other general thoughts or comments are more than welcome.

Beginning to look a lot like copy and paste with only one word changed. (kind of reminds me of automated message that sound all right till they get to your name when it gets all broken and sounding mechnical.

But in any case I love the whole premise of Epic. I love to imagine huge armored columns rolling down on the enemy and crusing them. I love the idea of being able to actually do a city siege on an 8x4 table and have it look right (scenary wise)

Unfortunately nobody else seems to like playing in this scale.

I enjoyed playing epic... the only problem was that I hated painting epic.

I had one sweet game though where I basically pulled out every single epic fig that I had, divided them into two sides, and battled over my grandfathers massive model railroad set. I think it took about two days of pretty solid fighting before the dust settled!

i've spent a lot of time looking at the pictures in gw books and remember how i drooled over some depicts of massive battles and all... thousands of men, hundreds of vehicles, rules about accumulating fiire power. skyscrapers , none liked it though, besides me. so we chose necro, mordheim and wfb, leaving epic alone.

Everyone in my household has recently started collecting a seperate Epic army, eventually we will have some games, but judging from the current rules i don't think its going to be very enjoyable.

These games simply fizzle out because the rules are for lack of a better word (&#$@!), or more (&#$@!) than usual.

I really like [epic]. I think it is a great game. I like the various models and especially [the little cardboard blast markers]. When people ask me about [epic] I always say how much I like it.

"Infantry stands"?
There's your problem.

If those 5 guys get to make 5 attacks, what's the problem with 5 wounds?

Are you saying, 5 guys get 1 attack? And have 1 wound?
So they're not really 5 guys then...

Heavy Gear does an adequate job of representing infantry in a larger scale game. Infantry are represented by individual models, but the way they function is combined. They only make one attack, but each remaining model in the the squad contributes to the effectiveness if the attack. Or if a squad has more than one type of weapon in it, you get to make one attack for each type of weapon. The infantry unit is a single target for the purposes of attacking it, but unless a weapon is specifically designated as being anti-infantry, it suffers negative modifiers on its attempt to attack/damage the infantry. When you damage the infantry unit, you remove individual infantry models from it.

Heh-heh... I remember reading those rules. Was fairly impressed by them.

For a miniatures game focussing mainly on vehicles, they really did the infantry well in Heavy Gear. Not overly tough, but hard to hit and hard to destroy. Any damage on a squad would accumulate on an individual until it was killed, then overflow onto the next individual. So, theoretically, you could wipe out a squad with one hit - if you did enough damage to kill all of the infantrymen sequentially.

However, anti-infantry area-effect weapons (APGL) were truly nasty. They would do their value damage to each individual in the squad separately! May not kill the squad, but it would hurt them all.

I like each version of Epic, though original Space Marine will always be my favourite.

Current Epic plays really well, but GW seems determined to make it fail, through insane model pricings compared to other manufacturers, limited availability, no coverage or attention and a slow release schedule.

A pity, as Jervis Johnson is a fantastic designer.

As things stand now, you are better off getting as many figures off ebay you can, and either playing an older version, or downloading the (now free) Dirtside II, and statting out your Epic figures for it :(
