This is a message I will post a couple of times in this section for each game because I think that its best that each game is discussed in its own topic.

What experiences have you had with SPACE CRUSADE. The reason I ask is that games like this seem like they have a very limited fan base and so have appeared and then disappeared like a flash, or were top sellers in their day but have now dwindled to the point of non existence.

I would like to pick this game up (or another I have posted about) and so would like to get a general idea about how it plays, what size of game do you think work best? or can it be linked in some way back to Warhammer 40,000 and so used in a campaign?

Any other general thoughts or comments are more than welcome.

I've never played Space Crusade and doing so doesn't especially interest me. But the dreadnoughts from the game are completely awesome! I always take a peek at them on eBay. But it seems like Space Crusade has a massive following world wide. You can even find websites dedicated to it. Very strange. I wish all the enthusiasts would give up on the game and sell their dreadnoughts to me for super cheap. Now that would be cool. :)

was fun enough, thank god gw realised back then the less yanks have to do with their games the better and so only released like 2 copys over there.

dreadnaughts are as common as muck over here and you can barely give them away

Space Crusade was a ton of fun, but good luck finding a copy with everything included. The figures were allright, though replacing them with newer ones would be a good thing. The dreadnought was wicked cool though...

Space Crusade wasn't a patch on Heroquest and the models weren't as good. It wasn't as solid an idea.

I've still got my minis though. The plastic is iffy but they're awesome for conversions (the heavy weapons from the supplements have formed the core of my Necromunda heavy conversions for years).

Plus the Dreads and Chaos Androids kicking ass of course.

I remember playing it as a kid. I thought the interchangable weapons were cool, but I don't think the entire blip counter thing worked very well.

ditto! (tho my first GW purchase was the first two expansions for Heroquest)

i'm not a great fan of the actual rules themselves tho, but i do plan on putting together a Space Crusade-eqsue game once i get the fluff and rules issues sorted.

fluffwise i'm currently leaning towards a small contingent* of marines from an escort squadron having to board either a space station thats been taken over by Genestealer Chaos Cultists, or an ork space hulk/rok that has been taken over by chaos marines (that is, a small group of chaos marines boarded it and killed the Boss and the orks now do what the CSM's tell them)

ruleswise i am currently leaning towards some wierd medley of Shadowrun DMZ and Zombies!!!!

*all from the same chapter ~ make the players tell which are their men by the actual squad markings!

I loved space crusade and used to play it all the time with my friends at school and like many others it was my first glimpse into the world of 40k.

One of my friends I met at college said when he was on a school trip to France he saw a Space Crusade expansion paack for the Eldar. He said he always regrets not buying it but would of had a hell of a time translating the rules if he had.

I'd love it if what he said was true but part of me finds it hard to believe :|

But official Eldar rules for Space Crusade :guns02 raaaaaah :D

The eldar expansion was true enough, though exactly what you got, aside from the rules, Im not sure about.

I've never even heard of Space Crusade. What is (or was) it?

SPACE CRUSADE is one of the 2 best selling board games in europe released by MB with 2 extensions.
you have one of the 3 squads of 5 space marines (one commander with 3 different weapons and 4 space marines with light or heavy weapons [rocket launcher, plasma gun, assault canon]) who enter a space hulk (a great modular board better than space hulk floor tiles) to accomplish a mission.
There are a lot of nice figurines : dreadnoughts, androids, orks, gretchins genestelaers and the good point is that your team can lvl up and win a better gear, more orders to be smart & powerful.
One must control the extra terrestrial forces, the other space marines squad (blood angels, ultra marines or imperial fists) or eladars.
The 2 extensions give more floor tiles, new doors, space marines figurines, weapons & chaos forces and also a new squad of 10 eldars with great powers and weapons...
Space crusade is a must.
It's not a classic GW on which you waste all your money to buy new figurines to play (space hulk for instance)
The game is complete in itself, the expansions are very useful and excellent.Space marines details are better than space hulk figurines too I think.Everything is perfect that's why it was so successful in the nineties.

I remember this game from the first time around, thigh sadly I never owned it then as my parents refused to buy it for my birthday! I do however now own a copy thanks to eBay! If anyone wants a laugh go on YouTube and search ' space crusade advert ' for the original 1990 commercial... All of a sudden genestealers seem a lot less scary!!!
