I think I remember someone released rules, some comtemporary version of the Epic rules but I can't remember clearly. I remember there was a lot of content in the White Dwarf magazines. Were these rules somehow compiled and released?

Little late but:
Depends what Epic

There are 4 sets of Epic Rules
1 Adeptus Titanicus - 1st edition.
(There was Box set with rulebook and possibly some extra book with add ons from WD, but I am not sure, as iI started with 2nd ed)

2. Space marine/Titan Legions 2nd edition - most popular
Rulebook from both starter sets, and in each expansions, for Empire, Eldar/Chaos, Orks/Squats and Tyranids

3. Epic 40K - 3rd Edition (System used later in Battlefleet Gothic game)
3 small Rulebooks from starter set, one of the armylist with all armies in

4. Epic Amageddon - Current 4th edition downloadable from GW page
Big Rulebook (IG , SM and Orks forcelist), and one expansion called Swordwind (Eldar, new flavor of IG and new flavor of Orks)
with many community play tested fan made army list and even 2 whole supplements (printed on demand)

Epic 40k is fully enclosed in 3 small books

Epic Armageddon has big book of rules and list (its free from GW website, and has rules but limited army list). Many more are web developed, both from times when they were done by GW with community play test and from post abandonment time when community made them from scratch.

If you want to return to 2 edition Space marine /Titan legions google Netepic

Definitely go for NetEpic Gold. Free, nice, well written.

Ahhh Epic......what a great game! You could deploy legions of soldiers; mighty war engines and flyers on the table top in a practical scale. Now GW want us to do it in 28mm where a viable Apocalypse Army will cost you at least £2,000. Great...and for those of us who were going to hold out and play Epic....they've discontinued the range; cheers!

Plus it's not just the money! I'm pretty sure my missus would leave me if I turned up with three 28mm scale warhound titans and told her they were going to love with us!
