This weekend was EF OFF, and we decided to play a campaign of legends of the old west.

Here are two battle reps with pictures.

Warm up game: Cowboys V Lawmen.

Innocent bystanders awaiting a hanging
Image

Cowboys move toward the town to attempt a rescue
Image

Bystander runs and hides in the toilet!
Image

Brave cowboy rides ahead to attempt a rescue
Image

OH noes sniper!
Image

DOH. rescuer down and lawmen dead (we rolled for injuries as we went along)
Image

After a long gun battle, two upstanding citizens in cover defeat two buckaroos, hmm cover does seem to help.
Image

The non mounted cowboys swarm into town
Image

Captive now free makes a run for it
Image

The horse that was called cover. Hero protecting the escape of the captive
Image

What happens when you fail you wound and fortune roll.
Image

The end of the game for me (cowboys) i bottled (ran for the hills after this). And as the captive was still on the board, the defenders won.

Misson 2. Texas rangers v outlaws. Raid mission.

All was quiet no one was stiring not even the cockroaches and fleas, all bar two outlaw sentries one behind the water tower and one in the john.
Image

Sentry on the john about to have a nasty surprise
Image

To arms!!! (yes the john sentry did survive the first round of shots)
Image

Yes he still alive at the end of the 2nd round of shooting
Image

Charge!! with no targets the john sentry leaps out, throws himself to the floor and downs a texas ranger.
Image

The game ended shortly after with the texas rangers failing a bottle roll, even with their reroll ability.

Summary.

LOTOW is a superb game, plays extremtely well. Simpler quicker and with as many tactics as necromunda.

Seems to have the best elements of most of the other GW games.

I just liked seeing Legos being played with again.

I've not read the rules for LOTOW - but I like the battle report.

the pictures don't do the terrain justice, we put loads of detail into it. Albiet quiet colourful detail. I may have to take some more pictures.

The watertower and outhouse look great because they are in the right colours.

The sherifs office looks good, jails cell, and a sheriffs desk and chair, which a sawn off shotgun holding deputy sat in for 6 turns before finally shooting at one my guys looking in through the window.

lego really helped, they could climb ladders, plus 'dead' lego men look awesome.

I had a Lego Rieklander Warband, that was the terror of the city (until a big mob of orcs with a troll put me down). It was great, as they were so easy to customize. They're larger than GW minis, which means they make easier targets (especially the mounted ones), so nobody complained. I also had a 2000 pt Empire army for fantasy, complete with a firing Grand Cannon, and two chariots (which I built after seeing how effective Ork chariots were. I was quite disappointed to learn the Empire can't take them!). Unfortunately, both have been dissambled.

I did notice speshul that in the second bat rep you did "forget" to mention that my rangers all but wiped out your outlaws, leaving I think it was only 2 heroes and a henchman standing... 8-)

We both had to bottle test, I failed on a higher LD (with a reroll) and speshul passed.

Hi, they are good rules arnt' they, but I just had to add that they are a strong cross of Mordheim and LOTR, and not a lot of Necromunda...

Nice lego stuff BTW, though you realise they actually had cowboys you can buy?

lol

Have to buy those rules

Buying stuff kinda defies the point of proxying.

For a purely social game, where lots of drinking is involved. This looks like a lot of fun.

For a campaign game, where 10 players meet every week to game. This would be a little hard for me to endure.

I would assume this was a "Beer & Pretzels" game.

Still, it sounds like you guys had a blast.

What rules set did you use?

Warhammer Wild West, Necromunda, Gun Fight!, Brother Against Brother Skirmish rules or something else?

we used legends of the old west, historical warhammer, basically the best bits of mordhiem, and lotrs, with necro, gm and a few other games thrown in.

i think the rules are solid enough to be played as a full campaign. 10 players!!! wow, that sounds awesome, its just me and rift and my brother every 3 months or so, i wish we had more people around here.

There are enough choice and tactics and more items to buy than you can afford.

the gangs are balanced and not to many if any house rules are needed to make is playable fairly.

Yes we proxied it, and it was a lot more fun for it, but i think our next major campain will be lotow rather than necro. we are looking to order models now and the scenery pdfs just arrived now.

If you guys have any questions just ask.

p.s. the writer of the game replies to questions and is open to suggestions :D which is a novel experience.
