Well, I'm a little nervous, but here goes.

Hello everybody. I'm a new member, here to play in your wonderful site. If I seem a little twitchy now, it's because it is the first time I ever joined a forum or community (a feat, considering I've been on the net for seven years now), and I feel like the new kid in class. Please don't hit me. :) I have lurked (is that the right word?) here for a while, and on the Heart of Heresy forum before that, and now finally decided to join. I hope I'll be able to contribute to the good thing you have going on around here, and I'm looking forward to discussions with you all. I'm not sure how active I'll manage to be - even in this day and age I do not possess regular access to the net - but I'll certainly try. Here are a few things you might (or might not :) ) want to know about me:

I have played minature wargames on and off for four years, but since four (!) years now am on a forced sabbatical - no one to play with :sad:

I played WH40K 2ed, WHFB 5ed (I think), Warzone 1ed, Battletech and Full Thrust, and, once, WH40K 3ed;

I have studied the rules of all GW Specialist Games (the ones now available, so not Space Hulk or Gorkamorka), Void and Infinity;

I generally prefere SF to Fantasy, but am not averse to all kinds of steam-punk, techno-fantasy, mythos-technology and similar concepts;

I am left handed but was tought to write with my right hand;

I have a tendency for rants and long-winded speeches (you can see that, right? :) ), I hope I won't cause too much of a problem with it;

My somewhat unfortunate tendency for overly-flowery speech comes from a lot of reading;

I prefer Pepsi to Coke and tea to anything else;

I am a dedicated tea-totaler and non-smoker;

Besides miniature games, I enjoy RPG's, books, movies, comix and cartoons (my tastes in those run mainly towards, but are in no way limited to, manga and anime);

My user name is a combination of the names of Kathara Zarthan, a character from the book series Starfire, and Shere Khan, of the Jungle Book fame, with a predilection towards the Disney Tale Spin version;

In relation to the above, yes, I do like cats more than dogs, and I do find the concept of furries agreeable; I especialy consider any SF or Fantasy universe devoid of a race of humanoid cats somewhat incomplate;

I am not a native speaker of English, so please forgive me any spelling/grammar/style blunders (I'll always try to use a spellchecker);

I zip, then fasten;

Well, that seems to be it. That's propably the longest introduction anybody ever wrote to a forum. I wonder I anybody will read the whole damn thing? :) I hope I didn't come off as some kind of pompus nut. Anyway, hello to everybody once again and pleased to be here.

Wow a long time lurker indeed. So, after all these years what made you finally decide to step forward and let yourself be known?

I do know how you feel, I am in a similiar circumstance. However I am still actively trying to seduce a few people to the ways of miniatures. I have managed to convert one fella into playing Pirates by Wizkids...I like to think of it as a gateway game :twisted:

I think we can fit all your interests in on the Eastern Fringe :)

We can always use more people well versed in the rules

As long as you can use your right hand with some proficiency you should fit right in.

Truckler is going to love you to pieces 8-)

Heck these forums will keep you with a steady supply of reading material...although I doubt it will add anything of the overly-flowery variety.

Just when I was starting to like you :evil:

I believe we have a rather large anime fan base among the members, I could be wrong as I am not big into that genre.

Well I have managed to read the entire intro and I must say...it was very cool. As far as pompus I think Truckler, Robbie and Venator are in a grueling fist fight to be the king of pomputudness with Yarlen, Myself and few others throwing in the odd haymaker for good measure!

Oh yeah, Welcome to the Eastern Fringe!

Tea FTW. You're not one of those milk-in-first freaks, are you?
We had another Pole once, but I smoked him and he hasn't been seen since.

Thanks for all your welcomes and encouragement. I feel all warm and fuzzy now :D

Sorry, I should have phrased that better. I didn't mean "study" as in "I schooled myself to be an expert". What I ment is that I have red the rules and so have some familiarity with them, enough to offer a very general rundown of main mechanics and my own opinions about them. But for what it's worth I'll be happy to give that rundown and opinions if anybody asks.

To each one his own, that's the philosopy I try to follow. Anyway, I certainly don't intend to be a pest about my personal tastes, derailing threads and starting flamewars. It's certainly nice when people agree with you, but often the best you can do is agree to disagree and go on living in peace (beats the alternative, IMHO). I just thought it would have eventually came up in discusion, so I thought I'd warn you guys, especially as I've seen some intense furry hatered on the net. I'm not that big a nut about them anyway, I simply like it more when they're around than when they're not. I blame Disney :P And all of the above goes for my manga and anime thing too. Except for the Disney part. :D

Buttons all the way...Safety First!

Ah, you see, I just kind of never bought that "fasten, than zip" safety thing. I have done it in reverse all my life (24 years and counting) and never once came even remotely close to injuring myself. I mean, that's a very important piece of anathomy your handling there ( :P ), you should be extra careful however you do it. So my take on the matter is, you have to be a real looser to injure yourself when zipping first (no offence to anyone here personaly). Or do you think it's only the overconfidence of someone who never had a bad thing happen to them and so does not believe it could ever happen speaking through me? But yeah, all buttons seems to be the best solution.

Quote:
(Screw the spellchecker I'm posting commando!)

:) Well, I can try, but it's a little against my personality. I conditioned myself not to be a spelling/grammar-nazi towards others, but never quite managed to give myself the same break. I guess it's my writing classes catching up with me.

No, no milk in my tea, thank you. I don't find that concept particularly disgusting (I did try it a few times), but I don't find it particularly appealing either. I do like to add lemon juice though. I also don't discriminate tea by color - black, green, red, I don't mind. As long as it has sugar in it.
So I'm the only Pole around here? Wow, must take extra care to represent my country with dignity and honor (not that I'm a big patriot I'm affraid). I'm courious, why did you smoke the previous one, Robbie? (may I call you that, being the newbie and all?)

Well, that covers it for now. Thanks once again for the warm welcome. Read you later! :D

Nothing out of the ordinary. Maybe he ran off to marry that Sri Lankan girl.

I am not sure how it is in Australia, but in America if you are a "Pole Smoker" you are a guy who goes down on other guys if you catch my meaning. I have wondered about you before Robbie, but I am sure that isn't what you meant :P :lol:

(shrug) Sure thing, Mr. LaFunk, you may call me what you want, just don't call me often - the difference in time zones would make that inconvenient :P
And being a Pole smoker, how would you describe the taste of Poles as compared to other cigarette brands? I don't smoke myself, but some of my friends would like to know :D

I knew I forgot to reply to something. Not that I have a really good answer. I guess my forced exile from wargaming (and pretty much all other gaming) has finally made me lonely enough to defeat my natural reticence. Looking at my posts you may ask "What reticence?". Well, I only become so vocal in writing. In real life I'm a very timid guy, really. But thinking about it, I realized there was no real reason not to join. You're talking about stuff that interests me, you're (generally :) ) open to opinions, you run a friendly forum with a cool crowd. I've been here a day and I already feel good. What more can I ask for?

Well, time to get posting, I saw some topics out there that I have something (hopefully relevant) to say about. I hope I won't go and accidentally resurrect a thread considered dead - I seem to recall it being seen as bad form on forums.

While true on most forums that is not an issue here at all. That is why Truckler and I don't remove old threads cause you never know when someone might have something new to add.
