I have been considering running an Inquisitor game based on the botched bank heist seen in the movie "Serenity".

For those of you not familiar, 3 thugs and a psyker rob a bank. Then evil flesh eating space pirates land to attack the very settlement that they are robbing.

So I was thinking having a 28mm scale bank robbery (Guilder Hard Currency house) in the Underhive and that's when a Chaos ( ) cult attacks in an attempt to steal an artifact that is being studied by local Inquisitor and his acolytes.

So my question is this, since 28mm is 30% smaller than 40mm, should I just say that 1-yard equals 2 inches when in fact it equals 1 and 3 tenths of an inch.

Just want to get some feedback on this.

Inquisitor "scale" (I use the term scale loosely) is 1/35th, or "54mm scale" to people that don't know any better.

I don't know where you got the 40mm figure from.

If, for whatever reason, you want to use the totally unplayably awful Inquisitor rules, but with regular 40K models (approximately 1/64th scale) I don't think I'd bother changing the basic unit of measurement at all. The Inquisitor rules really aren't accountable in any way what-so-ever, so I doubt it would cause any problems with gameplay - that the piece of crap game doesn't already have - if you just use the same measurements as in the larger scale.
If I was going to try playing it seriously, I might considder converting 1" from the Inquisitor rules to 1cm with 1/64th scale models, or possibly, keep the weapon ranges in inches, but measure the movement values in centimetres.

If you measure from the bottom of the mini's foot to the eyes, it should be 40mm. 54mm is from top of head to bottom of foot. (both of which are rough mearures anyway.)

It was a minor mistake on my part.

However, I was going to try "those aweful piece of crap rules" simply for a change of pace and because my scenario was going to be a little more detailed than "okay I shoot this guy, and then I shoot this guy, and then it's your turn"

I was getting a little bored with usual Mordheim/Necro tactic of "I stay behind cover and shoot you till you rout."

By incorporating a few extra stats and some "objectives" that don't involve simply killing your opponenet, I thought I might have a more enjoyable game.

However, thanks for the advice. I will probably use centimeters for movement and inches for shooting, all little confusing for all of the base 40K players, but thankfully I'll be playing with gamers that are patient, cool-headed, and tactful.

I's a Yahoo group (so you'll have to register to get the files), for a home-made 40K role-playing game.
It looks to be based on the Inquisitor rules, except it fixes most the massive basic flaws that make Inquisitor un-playable. The only real remaining problem is that it doesn't look like it keeps track of character power-level. Could be wrong though, I haven't read it thoroughly.
It's pretty comprehensive, and adds quite a bit of detail to the 40K setting, not necessarily in ways I personally agree with, but it does a good job. *

If its just going to be a one-off then don't even change the scale, just use 28mm miniatures. The ranges are all probably much too short given the size of the miniatures anyway. It should be fun for a change, and by keeping the scale the same things will move more quickly. The last think you want if for your group of players to get bogged down with some crazy conversion calculation inaddition to using already unfamiliar rules.

Just keep it simple. If everyone likes the game and the rules, then maybe you can work out a conversion that is more accurate. But I really don't think it will be necessary. I think that most folks who play Inquisitor at 28mm don't change the ranges/scale.

The rules are horribly unwieldy, like Inquisitor, but atleast they work.

I love Gurps, their vehicle, space ship, and vehicle battle system all totally suck. Their man-to-man combat is pretty good and I like the skills system.

I ran a GURPS Star Wars campaign for 3 years, and it went swimmingly.

I know a lot of the RIFTS, D20, and Vampire Folks really hate GURPS. Most of those people that I know say, "it's too technical and a little clunky at times."

Although to each their own I suppose.

Anyway, would anyone be interested in hearing my battle report when I have finished my scenario. My brother and I are going to play it this weekend.

this gives me an idea. i'll run an Exalted game using 28mm figurines... i certainly have enough to provide literally an army of 'extras' (4 health levels, basic stats and skill levels), and some nifty character models to represent other exalts and such. it could brind a whole other reason to convert and paint as well. a nice challenge would be to convert GW minis to fit the manga/anime theme of the game. and painting on caste symbols would be cool.

oooooo, i could use that c'tan with the scythe-arm to represent the 'mask of winters'!

but what could i use to do justice to the sidereals... hrm...

exalted is great game, you should check it out if you like d10 systems and want something different.

Never tried Exhalted. Is it anything like Mage or Vampire?

I have played both of those a little, just didn't really enjoy the system that much to invest in Exhalted.

I heard Exhalted is a game of immortals, like gods fighting and such.

I can't look it up now because of the office firewall. I'll look it up later.

well, it has 'gods' in it, but mainly they take a background role as they're too tied up playing the games of divinity. the main book in exalted is about people playing as 'solar exalts'. basically super-humans that have a place in society based on the phases of the sun. there are different types of exalted however. the lunars are based on the phases of the moon and take on beastforms, and the sidereals are based on astrological phenomina. the abyssal exalted are the 'evil twins' of the solars, and have similar abilities, but a different aim. other than those exalts, there are a few other powerful entities as well. the fey, alchemical exalts, dragonblooded(based on the elements), god-blooded, ghost blooded, beastmen, and various other people. the gods all take charge of certain types of exalts. the unconquered sun, the malpheans, and others. whereas the masters of the abyssals are known as deathlords.

as far as vampire and werewolf (in the old world of darkness, not the new one), Exalted takes place in an earlier time. the old world of darkness takes place in the sixth 'age'. the world of exalted is about the second 'age', after the fall of the solars, in the period ruled mainly by the dragonblooded and their queen, the empress.

it's d10 system is similar to other white wolf games, but has very unique gameplay features, history, and background that make it a refreshing break from the usually dark and depressing world of white wolf games.

WOW! That's a heck of a post. I guess you've played a game of Exhalted or 2.

It sounds like it iss similar to that AD&D Ancients game "Immortals". That was an interesting setting, but because no one ever really "died" in those campaigns, and becuase it said "IMMORTALS" on the cover, a lot of gamers thought, "Well if I'm Immortal, how can my antagonist threaten me?"

Anyway, sounds cool.

you could call them immortals, i suppose, but really the solars are all just reincarnations of their former selves from before the usurpation and fall at the end of the first age. there's also a background you can take at character creation called 'past lives' which allows you to have occasional visions of your life in the first age. it's rather unclear as to whether the lunars are still around from the first age, or if they too are reincarnations. and the abyssals are corrupted souls of solars, stolen from the jade tomb by the deathlords and malphaens.

yay, more stuff that doesn't make sense without proper context, woohoo!

I would be interested in seeing the results of your battle. Would it be to much to ask for pics?
