So, money wise, Ogres would be a an easier army to build but not as nasty on the battlefield as Skaven?

Try costing out some troops from the store as I am not entirely sure if OK is actually cheaper. The skaven are definitely more interesting and powerful to play.

Oh apologies yeah, my brain put extra letters in there. :-o

The mechanics of the game have changed a huge amount too, expensive low model count units are just victory points targets now. It is better to put your faith in ranked units and characters to do the killing.

As a FYI, Ironbreakers are dwarves elites, who are high weaponskill, strength and toughness with a 2+ save in CC. The only down side is movement three but they cant be march blocked so they have an effective movement of 6. This bundle of hairy hardness comes in at only 13 points, on small bases. So you should see that paying 150 points for a +1 combat res gives your opponent a significant advantage over you.

The most effective way of using ogres is MSU (multiple small units) but the ogres low leadership make this difficult. Essentially if they take 25% casualties from missile fire they only have a 50% chance of actually staying and fighting, the rest of the time they will run off like gnoblars.

They can win just not consistantly, and they are very dependant on their opponent having a certain list (no missile fire please its scary....oh wait no marouvreability either cos they handle that).

Not at all. The name is derived from "mujahiddeen" (:P) so the "H" is more than appropriate.

Well, that's not a 'huge' change, but if the expensive, low-model-count units don't do appropriate damage, then that's no good either...

I used a min-sized unit of Khorne Knights to "Look out sir" my Khorne Lord into melee asap ... and I used a giant regiment of Beastmen with a Khorne Champion to just completely sap the will to live of my enemies...

Other than the Khorne Champ leading the beastmen, that still works, right?

Yeah, I warned him I didn't know anything about Ogre Kingdoms :)

Ya I believe those times are looked back on by most as the age of "herohammer". :)

we still live in that age, Rift. Most people just don't realize it!

I think that The Age of Herohammer was supremely overestimated by those who didn't have Empire Cannon on their side!!

Lol, well although heroes still are a bit daft you don't see khorne lords with 10 strength 10 attacks any more or some of the most hideous combinations anymore (or even the khorn lord with the blade of darting steel( auto hit) and a strength potion to make him strength 8 ) :)

Canons were bad too but now the emphasis is on troops the effect is not too bad. (notice the too in there lol)

...I'm way out of the loop... 35 points doesn't sound like a lot to me... These things have 2 wounds, right?

I used to pay 65 for Khorne knights ;)

as of the new edition of warhammer. a unit must be 5 model wide to count as a rank. therefore a minimum of 2 ranks of 5 models is needed to get +1 rank bonus. thats where the 10 models cames from.

Also. each ogre has three wounds but only paltry armour which is quickly negated by strength 4 opponents. (like my lizardmen saurus)

personally i find ogre armies a waste of space and very easy to beat with my lizardmen, especially considering my versions of ogres (kroxigor) are roughly the same cost as the elite ogres and that extra bit harder hitting at strength 7. another way i can win against an ogre army is to take many units of skinks as these lil guys have been known to win me games by running round units spitting poison death at enemies and standing behind units when they break and flee and thereby get cut to ribbons by my little reptilian friends.

You actually arm your skinks with blowpipes Falchion?
I'm... shocked & sickened.
Unless you're refering to chameleon skinks, but then you don't get any other choice.

well Ogres vs. Night goblins would be just plain funny. 300+ unit thinks "mmm easy prey" & charges. Then the fanatics come out to play 8-)

sry that had nothing to do with pretty much anything

also krug new high elves out in November so dont bother asking now

I never had problems against them as skaven, their missile units could never kill enough clanrats and I munched right over them in CC, gotta watch the flanks though.... :)

As for the new highelves....well you will have to wait and see but a whole army that automatically strikes first will be quite a challenge to defeat....

I imagine that ogres would be quite easy bait for the old high elves let alone the new ones. Lots of shooting and magic to cause panic checks and manoeuvrability to hit them first and usually in the side. :)
